The AICG Course Advisory Committee ensures accountability for providing quality education.
The AICG Course Advisory Committee was convened to oversee the Certificate in Clinical Governance for Patient Safety and Quality Care.
- Provides expert advice about local contexts of clinical governance education.
The Course Advisory Committee members offer advice and guidance on the development and successful implementation of the clinical governance programs within local contexts.
- Provides expert advice on the curriculum.
The Course Advisory Committee members assist the AICG staff to ensure that course curriculum meets workforce need for training and supporting good clinical governance.
- Supports the AICG clinical governance program quality assurance and evaluation processes.

Dr Penny Gaskell
Dr Penny Gaskell gained her medical degree in Australia and completed a Diploma of Obstetrics and Fellowship of the RACGP in 2000. Penny has worked in a variety of clinical, teaching and examining roles including as a lecturer in the General Practice and Primary Health Care Academic Centre of the University of Melbourne. Penny’s current roles include Eastern Health’s GP Liaison Medical Officer, tutor for IMG SOS and examiner for the RACGP (KFP and clinical exam), Australian Medical Council (clinical exam) and Health Education Australia Limited. She is also completing a Masters of Health Services Management and is a clinical council member for the Eastern Melbourne Primary Healthcare Network.
Dr Hung The Nguyen
Dr Hung The Nguyen is a general practitioner in Glen Waverley with an interest in multicultural health, Aboriginal health and intercultural health education. He has worked in remote, rural and urban Aboriginal health for over ten years in the Northern Territory and Victoria and continues to have a strong commitment to Aboriginal health and Aboriginal health education. Hung’s experience in health education ranges from undergraduate and postgraduate health education, general practice vocational training and training overseas trained health professionals. His other primary interest is electronic learning technologies in cross-cultural and health education. Currently, Hung holds board directorships at South Eastern Primary Healthcare Network, the Therapeutic Guidelines and Health Education Australia Limited (HEAL) and is the inaugural Censor position in the National Faculty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health at the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. He is a practical person in his approach to board decision making. Being analytical is his strong point and he promotes decisions based on the long-term outcomes for the communities that are served by the organisations in which he has involvement.
Mr Richard Laufer has worked in the health sector for over 10 years. Initially, Richard practised as an osteopath, however, in more recent years Richard has practised as a lawyer in health and litigation. He is currently the Director of Legal and Information Services for Northern Health, a major provider of acute, sub-acute and ambulatory specialist services in Melbourne's north. Richard is also a sessional lecturer in Monash University's Medical Law Program and a graduate from the Australasian Institute of Company Directors.
Professor Alison Hutchinson
Professor Alison Hutchinson is a Registered Nurse and holds a Doctor of Philosophy from The University of Melbourne, a Master of Bioethics from Monash University and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Advanced Nursing) from La Trobe University, Australia. She is the Chair in Nursing and Director of the Centre for Quality and Patient Research Monash Health Partnership, and Professor of Nursing at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. She has the distinction of being one of only a few Australian nurses to have successfully completed a formal postdoctoral fellowship program overseas.
Supported by awards from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research (now Alberta Innovates), Professor Hutchinson completed her fellowship in the Knowledge Utilisation Studies Program at the University of Alberta, Canada, during 2007 to 2009. Professor Hutchinson has attracted competitive research funding from Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Australian Research Council, the National Health and Medical Research Council, Australia and the Department of Health and Ageing, Australia. She also serves on the board of a not-for-profit aged care organisation.
She has worked in a variety of clinical, management, education and research roles across a range of public, private and tertiary healthcare settings. Her primary research interests centre on improving care through the translation of research evidence into clinical practice and care of the older person.
Dr Louise McCall
Dr Louise McCall is currently the Director of Education at HEAL. Initially trained as a nurse, she has over 20 years experience in medical and health professional education as an academic. She has held senior leadership roles in education at Monash University and in a medical college. Louise continues her involvement at Monash University as an Adjunct Associate Professor. She is an Associate Fellow of the Australasian College of Health Services Management and a graduate from the Australasian Institute of Company Directors. She is also a member of the Medical Radiation Practitioners Accreditation Committee.
Dr Cameron Knott
Dr Cameron Knott is an intensive care specialist interested in clinical simulation-based education and person-centred healthcare system redesign aimed at improved workplace inter-professional team performance and healthcare system performance. He is an intensive care specialist in the tertiary Austin Health, Victoria, and the regional Bendigo Hospital, Victoria, Australia. Cameron holds a Master of Clinical Education and is an Honorary Clinical Fellow at the University of Melbourne’s Austin Health Clinical School and Honorary Research Fellow at the Health and Biomedical Informatics Centre (HaBIC). Cameron’s responsibilities include the Academic Lead of the Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre, Monash Rural Health Bendigo, Austin Health's ICU Education and Simulation portfolio lead, and the Bendigo Health ICU Clinical Performance and Innovation portfolio lead.
